Speaking at a rally in New Hampshire on Tuesday, former Texas Gov.
Rick Perry said the government should shut down for six months or more to let Americans rest, including some who are ill.
Perry said he would not force people to pay for the government’s medical bills, but would let the government shutdown end.
The Republican nominee for president said he is a staunch supporter of free speech and said he believes the government cannot shutdown.
“The government is not a police state,” he said.
“You can’t tell a man to go into a bank and ask for a hundred dollars.”
Perry has been vocal about his opposition to the shutdown, and he also recently said he supports Trump’s controversial immigration policy.
